A system that was intended to eradicate the really bad umpiring decisions has at times descended into a farce with equally poor decisions being made. The current rules and regulations regarding the system are open to interpretation. Consequently two different umpires can arrive at two different decisions. This has led to correct decisions being wrongly overturned after a referral.
Another problem with the umpire referrals in cricket is allowing the officials to use all the technology. Sports technology can be quite an expensive business. There are only a limited number of Hot Spot cameras in the world currently. This means some test match series do not have this particular piece of equipment.
